Rev. Dr. Jermaine D. Covington

The Reverend Dr. Jermaine D. Covington is a native of Warren, Ohio, and is the fourth of five children born to John and Quereda Covington. He encountered the Lord at Grace African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church and in 1997 preached his trial sermon

In 2003, Pastor Covington earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wilberforce University with an emphasis on Philosophy and Religion and his Master of Divinity Degree from Payne Theological Seminary in Wilberforce, Ohio in May 2012 and received his Doctor of Ministry Degree in the inaugural class of 2018 from Payne Theological Seminary. 

During his tenure at Wilberforce University, Pastor Covington served in many capacities including student manager of the Wilberforce Bookstore, editor of the yearbook, and as a member of Alpha Omega ministries. He was instrumental in the reinstatement of the Charter and Wilberforce Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). In addition, Pastor Covington was blessed to be a recipient of an America Reads Grant and served as president of the North Ohio Conference Young People’s Division of the Women’s Missionary Society of the A.M.E. Church for seven consecutive years.

From 2000 to 2005, Pastor Covington served under the brilliant tutelage of the late Reverend Dr. Donald H. Jordan, as the Church Administrator and Assistant Pastor of the Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Cincinnati, OH. Reverend Covington also served as the Youth and Visitation Minister.

In 2005, Bishop Robert Webster assigned Pastor Covington to St. John A.M.E. Church in Columbus, Ohio. Since his leadership began in November 2005, over three hundred fifty (350) members have been added to the church congregation. A number of ministries have been created to the enhancement of God’s Kingdom including: Dramatic and Visual Arts, Seniors, Sons of St. John, Technology ministry and Young Adult.

COVINGTON Pastor Covington was appointed to Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Cincinnati, Ohio after its previous Pastor, the Rt. Rev. Frederick A. Wright, Sr., was elected Bishop. Pastor Covington is an ordained Itinerate Elder in the A.M.E. Church.

In 2016, with the blessing of Bishop McKinley Young, Reverend Covington was given an additional appointment at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Marion, Ohio and in 2018 he was given Grace A.M.E. in Bellefontaine, Ohio both as one-year appointments. Bishop Young also appointed Pastor Covington as the Treasurer for the Third Episcopal District.

Reverend Covington is a member of King Solomon Lodge #87 P.H.A. and Bezaleel Consistory. He is also a 33rd Degree Mason and a former Master Counselor of Brotherhood Chapter Order of Pythagoreans. He is a member of Chi Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and serves as the Chapter President.

Reverend Covington and his wife, Lucinda Messiah Covington, reside in Symmes Township, Ohio.
